Simon Paisley-Day, Actor

Just finished doing a series of head shots for my friend and neighbour, actor Simon Paisley-Day.
They are intended as an actor's portfolio as they are submitted for potential castings in plays, movies and television shows.
A great deal of fun went into the session and I must thank Simon for his patience and professionalism, and his good natured humour in looking this way and the other, as we explored the intricacies of light as it reflects upon, and adds expression to the human face.

Photogram Heaven (Darkroom Practice)

One more exercise with my students in Canterbury College producing another exciting and very rewarding photogram as part of their induction into traditional practice in photography.

Photogram Exercise

Working in the darkroom, making the last photogram of our first year's group before embarking head-on into our research and analysis for the assignment, we come to discover once again the beauty of this wonderfully traditional method.
Light converts objects, human beings and foliage alike, into shadows and highlights independently of value. The only important and defining factor is the light.
These are the ''before'' and ''after'' moments of the exercise. Class participation at its best. Plus an intriguing and very mysterious result which is now part of the wall in our classroom at college.

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting this young Colombian artist in his London studio. Murillo has lived in England for the past seventeen years and at this moment his star is on the rise having had some encouraging  success after a couple of auctions at Sotheby's and Christie's.
We both hail from the same province in Colombia - Valle del Cauca - and I suppose this reason alone elicits feelings of kinship with the young artist. That, and his undeniable talent.
