By Jack Peilow, ten years had passed since...

This shot was part of a series that young Jack did at the time and was entirely related to beards.

Jack went around town asking men to pose for his project and I just happened to walk by, sort of speak.

Witkin: learning from Courbet

Rome (Years ago...)

From Chloe - Old College Practice

I found this image in an old memory stick. It is from a former student at College whose last name has already been lost in time. Having forgotten the name is unimportant. What really matters is that the image and the message themselves are still quite relevant.

Portrait of Tracie Peisley - Artist, Whitstable

I am very happy with the resulting portrait of this artist whose career goes in ever growing ascendency all over the place.

She is very talented and creates intriguing and exceedingly challenging pieces which are being shown in several important galleries in Kent at any given time.

Photographer in Ward's Island, May 2023

I owe this faithful rendition of my reflection to young American photographer Melissa Vera, who I met while walking around and taking portraits of old friends during my sojourn in Ward's Island, Toronto.

She was visiting from Florida and was delighted by the surroundings until I showed up. After a short exchange of information she and I both decided to take portraits of each other. The friend she was with was very shy so he decided to step away from the shots.

The portrait I took of her is a few clicks down from this post and I am very pleased with it as well.

Portrait of Melissa Vera - Ward's Island, Toronto, May 2023

I took this portrait of the young visitor to Ward's Island during my stay there before summer.

She is a graduated photography student from the US and showed a keen interest in knowing what or who I was photographing as I walked around.

She is the only subject of my project that was not a resident of the island. She lives in Florida and was visiting that beautiful place on the other side of the water from Toronto.

Self-portrait - May 2023, Algonquin Island - Toronto

One morning during my stay in Algonquin Island I saw the shack next to the outer side of the bridge, the one where there are clothes and books to be taken by passerby. It was at that moment that I decided the time had come to inscribe myself onto my portrait project.

The image was taken with my faithful Fujifilm X10, as opposed to the medium format Rolleiflex film camera that I had used for the duration of my stay while shooting my subjects for the Island Portraits Project.

It reminded me of the words of my late mother: "En casa de herrero, cuchillo de palo".
Which loosely translated mean: "At the home of the iron worker, a wooden knife".
